We are operating a bar and ice cream trailer this year at the Air Races! This event is going on from 9/15 to 9/19. It's a great fundraiser for the club. The sky is a little smoky still but the weather is great otherwise.  We're lucky to have a decent view of the show from our booths.  If you are attending come say hello! ​

Several of us met Kristopher Dahir for a walkthrough of the veteran memorial plaza being built at the Sparks Marina! We got to see the upper area that has metal plaques for business donors and bricks with messages from other donors. The lower area where the names of honored veterans will be displayed is still being built, and may be done as soon as next summer. It would be great to come back later and check on its progress!

Time to do more dirty work on our Vaughn Middle School corner. This will be another dig day, removing the old dirt and exposing the irrigation connections. We'll have some heavy equipment available and we'll need plenty of people on shovel duty. Sign up here!

​RODEO is on! 10 days straight starting Thursday, June 17th, through Saturday, June 26th. We need all hands on deck to help sell beer and replenish our coffers. Click here to sign up for a shift. We need 4 people Monday through Wednesday and then 6 people Thursdays through Sundays. Most of the shifts are from 5:30 pm to close, there are some earlier ones on the weekends. This is a great time to invite a friend to cover a shift with you. Reminders: close-toed shoes, favorite western top, no eating or drinking in the beer trailer, Geoff will contact each group with parking details. YEEHAW!!!

Garrett Barmore discusses the history of several alcoholic beverages and how they relate to daily life in Virginia City during the mining boom. If you'd like to follow along and play mixologist in your own kitchen, get the recipes here and stock up on the ingredients (we will be making the ones on the first page).

Garrett Barmore is Curator of the W. M. Keck Earth Science and Mineral Engineering Museum at the University of Nevada, Reno. He received his Master's Degree in Museology from the University of Washington and specializes in professionalizing small museums. Garrett is very interested in Nevada mining history and has worked as a historical archaeologist in Nevada. He is Past President of the Nevada Museums Assoc.

Our first Holcomb clean up of the year went great! Weeds were cleared and a ton of new flowers were planted.  Big thank you to our non-Rotarian volunteers who were suckered into helping: Tara, Aurora, Dan and other Dan.
