What We Do

The Rotary Club of Reno Midtown brings together community-minded professionals who are passionate about making a difference in Reno and beyond. Through hands-on service projects, local partnerships, and global Rotary initiatives, we work to strengthen our community, support youth and education, and address pressing needs both locally and around the world.

Our members combine their skills, leadership, and networks to create meaningful impact while building lasting friendships and connections in Reno.

Youth Leadership

Supporting youth leadership is a key part of the Rotary Club of Reno Midtown’s commitment to service. Our club sponsors students to attend RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards), an immersive leadership program hosted by Rotary Districts 5180 (Northern California) and 5190 (Northern Nevada).

Held at Grizzly Creek Ranch near Portola, California, RYLA helps young leaders build confidence, resilience, communication skills, and teamwork through workshops and outdoor team-building activities, including a ropes course. The program also introduces students to Rotary’s core value of Service Above Self.

Through fully funded scholarships provided by the Rotary Club of Reno Midtown, Rotarians help local students participate in this transformative leadership experience.

Supporting Education and Literacy

The Rotary Club of Reno Midtown is committed to strengthening literacy and encouraging a lifelong love of reading and writing in our community’s youth. Through partnerships with local schools, libraries, and community organizations, we support programs that make books and creative opportunities accessible to young readers.

One of our key initiatives is the Young Author’s Anthology of Northern Nevada, which invites 4th and 5th grade students across the region to submit original short stories. Students are encouraged to explore their creativity through any school-appropriate topic or writing style, as long as the work is original, prose-based fiction, and not AI-generated. Each year, thirteen student authors are selected to have their stories published in a physical and digital anthology that is shared with their schools and local libraries—giving students the exciting experience of becoming published authors.

We also support literacy through community book drops, where Reno Midtown Rotary members distribute free books to children and families at local events. These book giveaways help place stories directly into the hands of young readers and encourage families to build home libraries.

Through these efforts, the Rotary Club of Reno Midtown helps inspire creativity, confidence, and a lifelong passion for reading and writing.

Environmental Stewardship

Caring for our community includes caring for the spaces we share. Through Rotary’s Environmental Avenue of Service, the Rotary Club of Reno Midtown works to help protect and improve the places that make Northern Nevada special.

Our club has adopted the Holcomb Historical Site, near the Midtown “Big R” and bus stop. What began as a flower-planting project has grown into an ongoing service effort to maintain and care for this space. Monthly, Rotarians gather on a Saturday morning to weed, pick up trash, and tend to the flowers, helping keep this busy Midtown corridor vibrant and welcoming for residents, visitors, and transit riders.

Beyond Midtown, we also partner with Friends of Nevada Wilderness for an annual thistle pull, helping remove invasive plants from public lands and protect native ecosystems. This hands-on project supports the health of Nevada’s natural landscapes and reflects Rotary’s commitment to environmental stewardship.

Community members are always welcome to join us in these efforts. You don’t have to be a Rotarian to participate—check our calendar for upcoming service days or contact us if you’d like to volunteer and help keep Reno and our surrounding wilderness beautiful.
